Gol...

The other afternoon I gave money to a homeless man. I'm sure those of you who know me know that my actions seem extremely out of character, but this particular homeless man seemed very genuine and he also had a homeless publication, which I think added a lot of legitimacy to his plight. And maybe my cold capitalist heart was bleeding, a little.
So I take the paper from the man, and the headline on it catches my eye.
"Eye on Homeless Soccer"
Say what? I go on to read the article and it turns out there is a homeless soccer league in New York that holds weekly practices, and they recently travelled to Charlotte, NC to compete against other homeless soccer leagues in the first USA Cup. The best homeless soccer players from the USA will then travel to Cape Town, South Africa to compete in the
Homeless World Cup. Um, maybe I'm out of line to suggest this, but if they weren't paying for these homeless athletes to travel internationally (A plane ticket from New York to Cape Town is $8000), wouldn't they have more money to actually contribute towards fighting homelessness?
