I am fine with some of the trends resurfacing from the 80s, specifically leggings. The return of leggings has made 2006 one of my happiest years yet, and there are merits to some of the other 80s styles. However, there is no excuse for a return of the scrunchie. In an age when ponytail holders, barrettes, headbands, bobby pins, and other hair accessories are readily available to the public, it is unacceptable for women to be holding their hair back with oversized spandex circles. Scrunchies once had their place in society as a ponytail securer/t-shirt knot-holder, but since we have made so many advances in hair technology as a society since then, it is alarming and disappointing that the scrunchie has persisted.
